Look Past the Errors

I'll say a few things about the whole series here, and then a few things specifically about this first book.
First, Cassandra Gannon (and her sister, as well) is creative, and her stories are compelling. It's a blend of humor and melancholy, and some things work especially well. In this series, the characters have pretty much had their world destroyed--I would be surprised if a single one of them didn't have PTSD. I think Ms. Gannon could probably do more to emphasize just how tragic everything is (something she does well in #5), but I also really like the fact that she focuses on them moving on. Slowly but surely they're making new lives for themselves, and they're able to look at life with humor and with passion. I commend Ms. Gannon for that message.
But, fair warning for potential readers, while the stories are wonderful, the writing itself is a challenge to get through. Typos and grammatical errors are abundant (which is the reason that I'm giving this book 3 stars instead of 4 or 5). I urge readers to try and look past them, because the story itself is great, but I understand not being able to. A suggestion to Ms. Gannon would be to do more to edit her work, because having all those mistakes detracts from the potential her stories truly have.
About this novel in particular, I think it would make a good start to the series. I didn't actually read the series in order (4, 5, 2, 6, 3, 1) but I can't see a reason as to why "Warrior from the Shadowland" wouldn't make an excellent start. I like Cross, and I'm ambivalent about Nia, but they do make a good Phase-Match, and they work well together as characters. Most of the characters introduced become special unique snowflakes in later (or upcoming) novels, and I promise that the cliffhanger here leads to an awesome story. I will say that Ms. Gannon likes herself an insecure male lead--I feel like I shouldn't be so fond of people thinking so little of themselves, but it's such a nice change from cocky heroes that I just can't help myself. And really, I think it makes them adorable on top of the sexy that they already possess.
All in all, the writing does detract from the story, and I wouldn't be surprised if it turned people away. But if you can look past it, and I sincerely hope that you do, there's a great story and an even greater series underneath. I myself am eagerly waiting for the next book.

I really enjoyed this book. The storyline is great. I thought the characters were all well developed. I gave it four stars instead of five due to the many typos and missing words. It would have been really frustrating if I hadn't enjoyed the story so much. If the story or characters had been weak I would have just stopped reading it and deleted it but I was hooked. I even bought the second one already. If you're thinking about reading this book you definitely should. It's worth it.

But I am glad I did! It was an entertaining and original story with strong characters. The story does jump around from character to character but instead of being fragmented it all comes together in complementary sub-plots that are intriguing not distracting. Definitely not a brooding (or boring) paranormal romance.

Yes, there were typos and a few mistakes. It was slightly distracting but the story compensated.

An excellent read.

I purchased this book for my children to hep them research Ancient Egypt for a school project. They got what they needed out of the book for the project, but have returned to read the book 'just because'. They really liked it.

I skim read some of it and was impressed at the bite sized bits of information, which is the best way to get information across to the Twitter generation.

Plus the usual Deary sense of humour!

Recommended for the kids.

Are You Dreaming Big Enough?

I actually read an earlier version of this book back in 1983 and it was the beginning of an OUTSTANDING career! The concepts in this book work if you work the concepts. I purchased this book again to "sharpen the saw" as famous author Stephen Covey would say! My career has been amazing and it all started right here. My career was amazing and then I started my own business 12 years ago and now in my 70th year am also a part owner in another company and enjoying helping them to succeed as well.

These concepts are simple and the rewards are a big as you are willing to commit to. I am now also working on a book as I continue to learn and grow. Good luck on your journey; this is a simple first step to learning that life has ONLY the limits YOU put on it!

My favorite chapters are on Awareness and Choosing your goal

This is one of my TOP 5 books of all time! Jim Jones distills the basic psychology of life. I read this book 30 years ago! I now realize that there is nothing new under the sun. We must take knowledge and apply it for it to work. I simply read the book back then and didn't apply it long enough to get the benefit. My favorite chapters are on Awareness and Choosing your goal. Both focus on thinking and becoming aware of how thought determine what happen to you in this life! Read it! Apply it! Be transformed by it!
