A teaser/sample, not an actual, "book"

Meet Your Boss Chris Baker is every submissive male and Dominant female's fantasy come true! During this extremely brief story, we are introduced to a very cocky and confident man named Richard who we shadow on his first day at work as a new lawyer. When he meets his new boss, he is shocked to discover that she is a stunning woman he had seen in passing earlier that day. Always confident in his sexual prowess, Richard immediately hits on his new boss. Ms. Baker is not your wilting flower though, she is the opposite. Miss Baker will set an ultimatum for Richard and it doesn't take him long to make a decision! After a very brief yet hot femDom scene, the story ends with hey huge cliffhanger requiring the reader to pay for additional material in order to find out what happens next. If this had been more than a sample, I would have rated it higher but as it is now, this is simply a teaser, not a true, "book".

Short and sweet

when I came to the end I had to look back and see what happened. I couldn't believe it was finished already. it just got interesting and then it was over. kinda like Chris did to Richard, for him it just got interesting and then she ended it, talk about feeling ripped off. it needs a lot more to be called a book. it seems like it's going to be good, but then it's done. not even hint of a follow-up.

Good book only 1 problem.

It's short. (I know it's a short story and I haven't read the rest of the story's) But I feel like so much was left out.

But all in all I was happy with the story, no glaring faults (spelling, run-on's etc) Its worth reading and I will be looking into the other books soon. :)

So to Ellen Dominick, you now have me a a reader and fan best of luck in future books.

Here, he discusses the causes of the chronic priest shortage, including the misuse of psychological screening and what appears to be blatant discrimination against the kind of young men who were once considered ideal candidates for the vocation. So True its Scary

Having spent ten years in the seminary studying to be a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Orange in California, I picked up Rose's piece of work on a whim. The first couple of pages scared the hell out of me because he is right on target. The seminary system in and of itself is corrupted at its core... more time was spent in class discussing heretical theologicans and the need for openness towards women than the actual studies that would help us be priests! Homosexuality was in full force and more than a few guys were openly dating each other. Rose exposes these troubled times within the seminary system with a full force that should be acknowledged. Until the Bishops of America decide to overhaul the seminary system and strengthen the requirements of prayer and the Mass and eliminate the feel good spirituality classes that are taught there, the Church will continue to suffer. I personally know some of the persons written by Rose... and none of it surprises me.

I should have believed my friend who warned me two years ago

A friend of mine who entered an orthodox seminary two years ago warned me about a "homosexual problem" at St. John's Seminary in Brighton, MA (under Cardinal Law). I consider myself to be an orthodox Catholic but I wrote off his concerns as paranoia. Sadly, he seems to have understated the problem. In the book, Rose describes the case of one orthodox seminarian at St. John's who was sexually harassed by homosexual seminarians and whose allegations were ignored by the faculty to the point where he was forced to obtain a restraining order against the offending seminarian.
Many similar cases are presented throughout the book which is largely a compilation of anecdotes. This does not constitute an indictment of the book. The book is not meant to be a sociological, statistical analysis of homosexuality in the priesthood, but rather an on-the-ground description of the situation in heterodox seminaries. The reader will get a sense of the oppressive atmosphere for orthodox seminarians in seminaries controlled by heterodox and/or homosexual cliques.
In fact, one can deduce a pattern of networking and conspiracy amongst heterodox/homosexual priests and seminarians to root out orthodox candidates from the priesthood. The anecdotal evidence presented in the book is simply overwhelming, as is the fact that the vast majority of reported cases of sexual abuse by priests consists of the abuse of teenage boys, indicating that homosexuals comprise a disproportionate percentage of priests in comparison to their existence in the general population.
Certainly homosexual priests are abusing teenage boys in far greater proportion than heterosexual priests are abusing teenage girls. This fact explains why this book is not getting general play in the media and why the scandal is generally portrayed as one of "pedophilia" rather than ephebophilia. But this book will help you to understand the nature and roots of this present crisis.
(This book gets knocked down a star for its anecdotal nature, but five stars for its importance)

Simply mind-boggling

I'm a product of 16 years of Catholic education. For the past 15 years or so I've been told that we have a 'vocations crisis' within the Church -- that young men are no longer interested in becoming priests. A litany of reasons is given for this: young men are too materialistic today, celibacy is too difficult for us 'enlightened' moderns, young men don't agree with the Church's positions on moral issues, the Church hasn't done enough marketing, and (most disingenuous of all) leftover orthodoxy from the pre-Vatican II period is driving young men away.
Those 'liberals' within the Church offer up a predictable laundry list of "solutions" for this 'vocations crisis': Married priests, priestesses, "lay ministers", etc. Until very recently, these ideas almost looked reasonable. Not anymore.
This book positively blows the lid off of all the false reasons for the 'vocations crisis' and uncovers the shocking truth and hidden agendas behind what's going on in Catholic seminaries across the U.S. I used to think that a good Catholic fellow who believed and followed what the Church taught about such issues as abortion, contraception, homosexuality, the primacy of the Pope, transubstantiation, the immaculate conception, etc. would be a shoe-in for the priesthood. What this book demonstrates is that such devout young men are being routinely TURNED AWAY from the seminaries for no other reason than that they hold and believe these eminently orthodox positions! Who are being accepted in their places? I think the current and growing scandal within the Catholic Church in America provides a clear-cut answer. Now, institutionally, the Catholic Church in America is suffering an evisceration that Antonio Gramsci would be proud of.
In short, if you are a Catholic and you honestly care about what's been happening within our Church and why, you simply can not ignore this book. It will be very difficult reading for many of you, but if we are to weed out the wolves-in-sheep's-clothing among our leaders, we must begin with an honest appraisal of the situation. This book offers just such an appraisal and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Perspective on Innovation Leaders

Innovation capacity in any enterprise depends on specific leadership and management practices. These practices serve to stimulate, guide, engage and sustain innovation. Deschamps provides a deep and insightful analysis of innovation leadership as it applies to different environments and strategic constructs. This is an excellent framework for enterprise development.

Putting a face on everyday leadership practice is part of the author's lesson. Innovation leadership is generated from the executive ranks to the front line efforts of the organization. This balance of mindset, structure and culture shape the methods and processes of innovation, as well as the outcomes of innovation.

Deschamps sets forth a series of five process imperatives that are basic to leadership in different applications of innovation strategy:

1.Unbundle and Map the Innovation Process
2.Define and Disperse Process Management Roles
3.Assess, Evaluate and Improve Key Sub-Processes
4.Engage Cross-Functional Teams, Collaborate
5.Develop and Apply Process Indicators, Metrics

Process concerns are often where development and innovation programs go haywire. But the author connects leadership thought and behavior with strategy, process, resources, culture and structure to redefine a company's capacity for innovation. Process becomes a channel for innovation leadership.

Roughly a third of this book is dedicated to innovation models and leadership for different development imperatives. These encompass new/improved products or extensions, category innovation, business system innovation and customer experience innovation. These differences have been noted by other authors over the years, but Deschamps puts the leadership and management constructs in their proper place. That helps put the strategic agenda in focus.

This is serious reading, but it provides critical insights into the conversation on innovation strategy, leadership and structure. Further, it will explain to many corporate boards and extended organizations the practical differences between dancing with innovation and causing real innovation.

Finally a book about leaders who need not be superman

I've been waiting impatiently for the publication of Deschamps' book as I had read his previous bestseller Product Juggernauts. I also had had the privilege of talking extensively with the author on innovation management 2 years ago for an interview that I published in Arthur D. Little's journal Prism. The author was still in the midst of shaping his thinking about "innovation leaders". What makes the book great is its pragmatic approach to innovation management and the realistic view on leadership. Many books on leadership position leaders as near-perfect heroes. This book acknowledges that "superman" does not exist. As a consequence, 99% of "normal" managers and executives will find this book highly accessible and relevant to their daily innovation management practice.At the same time, it is more than a concatenation of easy anecdotes and examples: it also provides structure and framework to a subject that by nature is hard to grasp yet so important.

Underused tool

This book is a well written work and thoroughly researched. It is published by the spy agency "Defense Intelligence Agency" about which little is ever heard of in the news. The publisher, the Joint Military Intelligence College, runs the only classified college in the nation in which the future leaders of the intel community go to earn their Master's degree. The current head of the CIA and the Director of National Intelligence got degrees from that school. This book is one of the text books which is issued free to students who can obtain the clearances to actually attend the school. If you can obtain a copy of it, its well worth it.

The "frontier fictions," or the ways in which the Iranians viewed their often fluctuating borders and the conflicts surrounding them, played a dominant role in defining the nation. On these borderlands, new ideas of citizenship and nationality were unleashed, refining older ideas of ethnicity.

Kashani-Sabet maintains that land-based conceptions of countries existed before the advent of the modern nation-state. Her focus on geography enables her to explore and document fully a wide range of aspects of modern citizenship in Iran, including love of homeland, the hegemony of the Persian language, and widespread interest in archaeology, travel, and map-making. While many historians have focused on the concept of the "imagined community" in their explanations of the rise of nationalism, Kashani-Sabet is able to complement this perspective with a very tangible explanation of what connects people to a specific place. Her approach is intended to enrich our understanding not only of Iranian nationalism, but also of nationalism everywhere.

Original approach to Middle East history

I found this book to be a refreshing study of Middle Eastern nationalism. It went well beyond the traditional focus on religion and politics that seems to be the staple of other works on nationalism. It includes a wealth of information that many interested in Iran and the Middle East can profit from. It offers theoretical discussions of nationalism as well as specific historical points that distinguish the Iranian case from others. I found the writing engaging, the research broad and original, and the arguments are new. I would recommend it to those interested in modern Iran or nationalism in the Middle East

The significance of frontiers in Iranian history and political life is a subject that other scholars have unfortunately ignored. It is a welcome addition.

Mark Oldman is one the country’s leading wine personalities. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to purchase a book on wine... but a friend recommended it and I'm so glad he did. Very well done. The author's humor comes through in spades; while he takes the subject of purchasing and drinking wine seriously, he doesn't take himself too seriously. I felt like I was getting straight talk. At last, I don't feel like I have to have 10 different wine glasses and know which one to use with which wine?! The art and infographics make it very readable and the paper choice makes it a joy to flip through. I'm actually considering giving it as a gift which is big because I'm busy trying to decrease the number of books in my own home. But this one is a pleasure to peruse --- you could read a page or two at a time and come back to it; or use it as a reference at other times. Try it. I think you'll enjoy --- and learn while you do.

Thankfully, this book does what it says.

Mr. Oldman has so much information to offer, and this book is like having the opportunity to have a personal conversation and grill him with everything you ever wanted to know. Many of us have seen him at the myriad food festivals he attends, but the problem is when you go see him, he is so inundated by beautiful screaming women (is this guy the fifth Beatle?) that you can't get anywhere near him to ask questions. Now we have the book so that between this and the opportunities to see him at festivals, you'll get a lifetime worth of great wine information.

Oldman can probably afford drink like a billionaire. I can't. Thankfully, this book does what it says.

Great Read and Useful Advice for finding joy in all types and aspects of wine

First, this book is a great read, cover-to-cover. If I didn't drink wine (I do), it would still be a joy to read. The observations, insights and stories are worth the price of admission, even if the reader does not plan to put the book's knowledge to its intended use.

Second, the book is a guide to enjoying wine and life. There is a whole world of wine between high-end burgundy and wine with "lipstick, cupcakes or feet" on the label and Oldman urges his readers to explore and enjoy it. In Oldman's world, wine is not merely consumed, it is experienced and his book ensures the entire process can be savored.

Third, Oldman arms the unwary with the tools necessary to enjoy wine and the winebuying experience. Oldman gives the reader tips to assess where a sommelier's allegiances lie and then urges the reader to press the sommelier to be an engaged guide to wines on and off the list. (See off list bottles p. 101)

Lucas Calder had spent the past eight years flying his chopper in places where no one spoke a language he recognized. But the hand signals and facial expressions of afghani kids had been easier to understand than the scene he was witnessing now.

His father, Admiral Dwight Calder—famously rigid, gimlet-eyed and about as warm as a midnight watch on an aircraft carrier in the Arctic—blew a raspberry on the tummy of his baby daughter, Lucas's half sister, who was lying on her changing table.

Incomprehensible. And right now, damn inconvenient.

Lucas glanced at his watch: 3:00 p.m. Ten at night in the Gulf. He should be sitting at the tiny desk in his cabin, processing the next day's minesweeping flight plan, imprinting it on his memory.

"Who's a smelly girl?" Dwight teased. Mia shrieked with delight, apparently undisturbed by the stench emanating from her diaper.

"Dad, can we talk?" Lucas tried again to drag his father's attention to more serious matters. Such as Lucas's down-the-toilet military career.

"Of course we can." Dwight untaped the diaper.

Lucas took a hasty step backward. "Man, she stinks."

"Don't talk about your sister like that." Dwight wielded a wet wipe with surprising efficiency. It went without saying that he hadn't done any diaper changing when Lucas and his older brother, Garrett, were babies. Their father's metamorphosis to doting dad was very new. For Mia's sake, Lucas was pleased.

He just wished it was possible to have a conversation with his father that wasn't about feeding or potty time.

As Dwight tossed the diaper in the trash, Mia wriggled, a flurry of pudgy arms and legs. Lucas surged forward to block the side of the changing table.

Dwight held her in place with a hand on her chest. "I wouldn't let her fall," he growled.

Lucas hadn't come back to New London, Connecticut, to argue with his dad. He stepped away.

"Pass me a new diaper," his father ordered. The return to something approaching military style was so welcome that Lucas obeyed.

When Mia was dressed again, Dwight picked her up. "Would you like to hold her?" he asked Lucas.

"Uh, no. I'm good, thanks."

Mia nestled against Dwight's shoulder, eyelids at half-mast.

"She'll nod off soon," he predicted. "Let's talk downstairs in my study."

As they reached the bottom of the staircase, the glass-paned front door opened. Stephanie, Lucas's stepmom, came in and set her purse on the hall console. She gave a squeal of pleasure. "Lucas! When did you get here? Come give me a hug, you adorable boy."

He squeezed her tightly. "I don't need to ask how you are. You look great."

She smacked his shoulder. "Liar. Do you know how hard it is for a woman in her mid-forties to lose baby weight? But I love you for saying it." She pulled away to address Dwight. "Darling, you know very well Mia should be in bed."

"She kept calling to me over the baby monitor," he protested.

Lucas noted with some discomfort that his father sounded sheepish. Great. The country had benefited for decades from Admiral Calder's unrelenting sense of mission, but the one time Lucas needed his dad operating at full aggression… What had happened to Admiral Cold-ass, as he'd been irreverently known to his crew?

Stephanie took the baby from Dwight. "I'll put her to bed. Sorry, sweetie," she crooned to Mia, "but Mean Mommy's back."

Mia babbled something that may or may not have been an attempt at words. Her parents cooed as if she'd just recited Shakespeare.

Lucas couldn't help noticing that Dwight caressed his wife's bottom as she passed. Things really had changed.

Was his dad even capable of focusing on Lucas's problem?

Lucas reminded himself that Dwight had been a navy man far longer than he'd been a family man. If he could just recall his "preenlightened" state, he would understand why Lucas needed his help.

"It's good to have you home," Dwight said as he settled into the burgundy leather chair behind his oak desk. The desk had once graced the captain's stateroom on a nineteenth-century sailing ship. "How's the hand?"

"Fine," Lucas said. "Great. Fully recovered." Sixteen months ago, his minesweeping chopper had been shot down in the Persian Gulf. Lucas had been medevaced to the U.S.A. for treatment—on the day Mia was born, as it turned out. Getting over the concussion, broken ribs and ankle and punctured lung had proved easy. Or so he'd thought at the time.

The surgery on his shattered hand had been more complex, the rehabilitation endless. Partly because Lucas had insisted on doing it all in one long stretch, relocating to Baltimore to be closer to the rehab center.

"Shame about your eyes." Someone must have reported the details of Lucas's latest physical to Dwight. Shouldn't happen, of course, but Admiral Calder had so many friends in high places, there was always someone keen to fill him in about his son. Even though Dwight would have been too honorable to ask.

"The only problem was my depth perception," Lucas said. "Everything else was fine." He'd had no idea that, after working so hard to restore his hand, he would fail his back-to-duty physical because of his eyesight. The doctor had attributed the change in his vision to the deep concussion he'd sustained in the crash.

The skeptical pursing of Dwight's lips said his father wasn't fooled by the words the only problem.

It was an insurmountable problem.

Nothing is insurmountable.

"You've heard they're discharging me, as of December 31," Lucas guessed. "I'm on leave until then."

Dwight nodded. "I understand you turned down a desk job."

"I want to fly." They'd told him that couldn't happen. He should have known better than to issue an ultimatum to the U.S. Navy. But no way did he want to sit at a desk while, out there, men risked their lives to protect others.

Thanks to his ultimatum—send me back or discharge me—he'd be out at the end of the year. A man without a mission. He couldn't get his head around the idea.

Hopefully, he wouldn't have to.

"You failed the physical, you can't fly," Dwight said.

Usually, Lucas considered having his father so high up in the navy to be a disadvantage. Today, he hoped that for the first time in his life, it would help.

"That's what I want to talk to you about," he said. "I need to see a different doctor, get a retest and a second opinion. I figured you'd know someone."

Someone who would understand his need to get back out there.

"We don't do retests," Dwight said. "Besides, if you failed it once, you'll fail again."

"There are exercises I can do to improve my depth perception," Lucas replied. He hoped what he'd read on the internet was true, not some urban myth. "If I'd known I had a problem, I would have done them already. As it is, I want to spend a month strengthening my vision, then sit the test again."

Another pilot had been assigned to Lucas's chopper on a temporary basis, on the assumption that he'd be back. Now that he was out, his C.O. wanted to appoint the other guy permanently. At Lucas's request, he'd agreed to hold off for a few more weeks. Seemed he had more faith in Lucas's ability to swing a retest than his dad did.

"I'm not sure I like the idea of you going back after what you went through," Dwight said. "You're lucky to be alive. You've done your duty to your country, and then some."

"It's not about duty," Lucas said. "It's about…" No one in my unit is better than I am at undersea mine detection and destruction. No one is better at protecting our ships and their crews. They need me. He wasn't about to argue with his father about the numbers of lives and ships that were at stake every day over there. "This is who I am, Dad."

"Maybe this is a time to reevaluate who you are." Dwight's emphasis recognized the irony of a man like himself talking such postmodern jargon. "The navy isn't everything—I almost lost what really mattered before I figured that out."

He and Stephanie had split up briefly before Mia's birth. Lucas wasn't sure what happened during their time apart, but Stephanie had said his father had come through it a changed man. His dad hadn't seemed much different when he'd visited Lucas in Baltimore, but here at home…

Change wasn't always a good thing.

"I'm a bit young for a midlife crisis, Dad," Lucas said evenly. "I know who I am, and I know what matters. Will you help me or not?"

His father picked up a fat, cigar-shaped gold pen and flipped it between his fingers. "What does Merry think you should do?"

"We haven't talked lately, and I haven't seen her since I got into town. I came straight to you."

Merry Wyatt was the daughter of John Wyatt, retired navy lieutenant and Dwight's best friend. John and Dwight had served in Vietnam together, on a submarine, back when they were practically kids. John had saved Dwight's life. Which Lucas assumed was why his unsentimental father had always shared John's desire to see Lucas and Merry's childhood friendship evolve into a romantic attachment.

He and Merry had humored their dads by dating once a year for the past, what, nine years? Yeah, nine, starting right after Merry graduated from high school. That first date had been a disaster, but some of the others had been…interesting. Over the years, each of them had used their on-again, off-again "romance" to their own advantage. An easy read, not that exciting, but a nice read for a snowy day when nothing to do because of the snow.

enjoyable contemporary romance

Eight years of flying choppers for the Navy over areas like Afghanistan in which he does not know the language fails to prepare pilot Lucas Calder to being grounded after suffering an injury eight months ago over the Persian Gulf. Placed on medical leave, Lucas fails the eye exam that he needs to pass in order to return to active duty. He travels to New London, Connecticut to ask his father Admiral Dwight Calder to intercede so he can retake the test. His dad, doting over his newborn, tells his son to reconsider his career and what does Lucas' childhood friend Merry Wyatt think.

Lucas asks Merry to persuade his father. However, Merry's dad John on twice a day dialysis nearly dies from kidney failure. John wants Merry and Lucas married before he dies. Both love John so they agree with plans to grant him his wish and divorce after his funeral.

The Wedding Plan is an enjoyable contemporary romance starring two BFFs falling love and a solid family support cast. Though the premise has been used, the engaging storyline entertains the readers as the lead couple enter a new relationship in which both soon lovingly want it but each fears changing the mission.

Fine way to spend an evening

Okay but not fantastic. I did enjoy the characters and kept wanting to know how things were going to resolve. I enjoy this author. But I think I prefer her historicals a little more.
