The last couple of books by K.E. Osborn haven't left me hanging, so I had forgotten her diabolically evil genius at doing so. But it's safe to say that the queen of mean cliff hangers is back stronger than ever. She was one of the very first authors on the list trying to kill me, but her writing is amazing, that I simply cannot give up reading her books as soon as they come out. In case no one has guessed yet, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Heart of Steel.

Steel is a biker in the Savages MC. A Marauder Japanese Steel Knife is his weapon of choice, and it brings out fear in enemies. He's never had any desire to have a relationship with anyone, but things changed suddenly when he rescues a child in the road from getting run over. Willow is a kindergarten teacher, who shakes Steel's whole world up. She isn't meant for his world, but he can't stay away from her, and it doesn't help that she feels the strong connection they have, so she won't walk away either. Will Willow be able to accept Steel for who he is, or will she walk away, missing her chance at something worth the risk?!

WOW WOW WOW! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this author's rockers, but she took it to a new level with bikers. The character development is spot on perfect, with secondaries that I would love to see have their own stories. An action packed, fast paced, and very well written story line flows effortlessly. K.E. Osborn's brilliant writing style has, once again, held me hostage cover to cover, while keeping my heart racing. Heart of Steel showcases her extremely talented writing style on new levels. Well placed humor had me rolling in laughter, and the suspense is very intense. The chemistry flew out of my kindle, leading to SCORCHIN' HOT sexy scene goodness that's capable of causing severe hot flashes. The cliff hanger ending had me calling the author bad names, as she's trying to kill me. And to be honest, the whole series can't come quickly enough to feed my addiction, as this author will always be my kindle crack. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Not your typical MC.

This book starts out with a great little blurb by Steel, introducing himself to us and Willow introducing herself to us. I love the fact that KE Osbourne has given us a little note about the writing style of the book as well as a dictionary to help us understand some of the slang we will be seeing in the book in case we're not familiar with the terminology. Thank you KE Osbourne for that! This book was your typical rough and tumble, fighting and protecting book, with one of the bad boys of the MC falling in love with an outsider. HOWEVER, the level of things in this book, I do not remember having seen them like this before. The losses, the wars, the love, the pain and suffering that comes with love and loss and finding things again. Desires, hope, etc. are all in this book, and the pure bad@$$ bad boys are also there. This book leaves you on one heck of a cliff hanger. One that I just did NOT see coming. Read the book, enjoy it, and wait for book two to see what happens with Willow and Steel after they have to take off. Wait until you see why they do. Wow.

Excellent !!!

One of my go to authors of 2015 has kicked this new year of with bang and taken a foray into one of my favourite genres…an MC novel!
I was super excited to get my teeth into this as if the previous works have been anything to go by this was a hands down winner…and I was not disappointed, Ms Osborn I doff my hat to you, you hit the ground running with this and now that the motor is revving I can’t wait to see what you have in store next.
This is Willow and Steel’s story and if ever there was a case of opposite attract then it is this pair, they are as far apart on the spectrum as you could possibly imagine…or are they?
Willow was her mother’s perfect child, the obedient little girl that toe the line but she is no little girl anymore and she is ready to cut loose, to live a little and to find out for herself all about the things her mamma thought she never needed to know.
Especially what it is like to be the bad girl for once!!!
And finding just the sort of man that her mother wouldn’t want to see walking up the path is going to prove a little easier than she had imagined, especially when her nice ordered life is intersected by the world that is Steel and the Satan’s Savages MC.
Steel has lived and breathed the MC his entire life, he has learnt the ropes at eth knee of its president, his father but that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t give his right arm to know what life minus the violence would be like. Life in the club is harsh and hard but with no other point of reference, Steel can only imagine what else he could have had.
But when he and Willow meet, the instant attraction may just answer both their questions. Because for Willow he is the man she has been searching for and for Steel, Willow is his peek into the world he was born to be denied.
Being together is a path down which they will need to tread very carefully as it is littered with both danger and deceit. They face trouble from every quarter and unfortunately it some of it is directed from the men that Steel call bothers.
The story is one that doesn’t hold back, but that is to be expected by this author, she leaves no stone unturned in her pursuit of excellence and this is just that…excellent!

Drawing on his own clinical experience with hikikomori patients, Saitō creates a working definition of social withdrawal and explains its development. He argues that hikikomori sufferers manifest a specific, interconnected series of symptoms that do not fit neatly with any single, easily identifiable mental condition, such as depression.

Rejecting the tendency to moralize or pathologize, Saitō sensitively describes how families and caregivers can support individuals in withdrawal and help them take steps toward recovery. At the same time, his perspective sparked contention over the contributions of cultural characteristics—including family structure, the education system, and gender relations—to the problem of social withdrawal in Japan and abroad.

The Responsibility of the Parents and Educational System

With any translated work, there are always two parts: the original work itself (content), and the skill and methodology of the translator (translation). As such this review is also in two parts (heavily weighted towards the content) to address these separate yet critical aspects of this book.

**Translation**

Dr. Jeffrey Angles provides a readable translation here that I can find no reason to criticize. He appears to have left the authorial voice intact, without inadvertently inserting his own. I found no glaring evidences of awkwardly phrased sentences. As for technical terminology, I found nothing that appeared out of place or inappropriately termed. Perhaps if an English-speaking psychiatrist had interpreted the book, there would be more technical language in it, but as it is the translation works for the general reader (of which I am part), and for that reason alone I am more than happy with Dr. Angles' translation.

**Content**

Saito Tamaki (family name first, per Japanese naming convention) is a Japanese psychiatrist trained in psychoanalysis (Sigmund Freud's branch of psychological theory). In this book he deals, per the title, with the issue of, "social withdrawal," or in Japanese, "shakaiteki hikikomori" (shortened to "hikikomori," which is, "withdrawal"). The book is intended for a general readership, but with an emphasis placed on reaching two main groups: parents of hikikomori, and other health professionals who could possibly be involved in treatment of hikikomori and their families.

When Saito originally wrote this book in 1998 hikikomori was not a widely recognized as an adverse mental condition, but more as an incidence of laziness or selfishness on the part of person in withdrawal. This attitude was taken by the general public, families of the hikikomori (both immediate and extended), and finally even by the hikikomori themselves. One of Saito's aims (there are many for such a short book) is to change that mindset so people no longer look on hikikomori as adults who can (and should) help themselves, but rather as the equivalent of teenagers/children who require external assistance in order to overcome their condition of withdrawal. Since such a great deal of time has passed since the book's original publication, I think we can state quite generally that at the very least Saito succeeded in publicizing the condition, to the point that numerous TV/manga (Japanese comics) have dealt with hikikomori characters.

The book is broken into two parts, the first entitled, "What is Happening?" and the second, "How to Deal with Social Withdrawal." This separation would be highly effective if Saito actually followed it, but extremely important portions that fit under one title or the other are found in the opposite section, hence rendering the division unnecessary.

The book is best read not as two distinct sections, but as a continuous narrative with a specific focus in the first half, and another in the second half. For the first part of the book Saito deals with how to overcome professional distrust of hikikomori as its own distinct illness separate from others like schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, etc. In the second he goes into practical methods and principles for treatment of hikikomori and their parents.

As I stated prior, Saito's discussion blends between his two primary topics, as if the book were written almost in stream of consciousness and then edited later for clarity. There are many sections which are purely anecdotal, and appear to contribute nothing except length (as an example, a brief digression on a quote from Kurt Vonnegut). Saito's discussion places responsibility on two primary groups for a hikikomori's condition: parents and the educational system. However, the treatment he gives to both are not afforded until well into the second half of the book. While this is in keeping with the Japanese penchant for saving bad news to the end, it detracts from the cohesiveness of the work.

Although I do not agree with the structure Saito utilized to publish his message, I do find it to be very interesting and relevant. Primarily I was interested in how his observations would inform my opinion of Michael Zielenziger's work on hikikomori in Shutting Out the Sun. I found it interesting how vital it is that the parents of hikikomori be willing to participate in treatment, and how this supported one of Saito's final points that the parents are part of the problem. Based on what Saito has written in the book, and reading between the lines, I believe that he is attempting to point out that a serious parenting deficiency (lack of boundaries) is the core issue without overly aggravating the target of his criticism so they are unwilling to accept his critique. Overall, for anyone with an interest in Japanese culture, this book is well worth the read for the content alone.

The best book on this subject in my opinion. Written by the man who coined the name in the first place this book
arguably has the best overview and insight into the issue. Dr. Saito sees hundreds of sufferers daily at his clinic (which is for just
this ONE condition). I have interviewed Dr. Saito for my own research on hikikomori (I have dual nationality and brought my Japanese children up here in Japan, from birth to their twenties - along the way knowing many hikikomori sufferers). Dr. Saito has spent decades examining a painfully horrific family breaking, heart breaking ailment and has written this book in an easy to understand, simple, non- judgmental and caring style. A must read for anyone remotely connected to, or interested in hikikomori.

Some numeric feats depend on rote learning a lot of data, but other ones are much easier to perform with just a little training: Presh Talwalkar presents a lot of them, all of which are manageable for an average person. I particularly liked the multiplication of two numbers near 200, 300, ... and the division by 19. The nice thing is that *every* trick is presented with its mathematical explanation, so that the mistery of magic vanishes... but only for the initiati!

Many useful tips with examples and practice problems. Also has proofs for those inclined to delve further into the mathematics. The memorization for some tricks may outweigh their usefulness but for many others it's a reasonable trade-off. Overall, very good.

A Classic & Essential Reference Book

I consider HANDS OF LIGHT to be an essential reference book for anyone who is seriously interested in exploring energy healing. I am impressed with the way author Barbara Ann Brennan describes her early childhood experiences of sensing energy fields around trees and all living things, and even more impressed that after many years of training in physics and western ways of scientism, she never lost her inner sense of knowing.
HANDS OF LIGHT includes many pictures of auras and chakras, which serve to illustrate her points about how to identify common personality types and relationship types based on her in-depth personal healing experiences. Brennan also proceeds to explain how to help improve one's health by working on one's energy field.
Full enjoyment of HANDS OF LIGHT requires that the reader either have an open mind regarding the fact that many people can see auras and chakras, or the ability to see these things oneself. Brennan provides exercises to help people learn how to see energy fields, so any reader with a sincere interest in the subject of energy healing will most likely be very satisfied with this classic book.

An excellent Sourcebook in the Art of Auric Healing

This book is a must for anyone interested in laying on hands and in understanding the human energy field in general. Barbara Brennan gives substantial background information concerning the disease process and how disturbances and imbalances in the aura manifest in the physical body. She then gives in-depth techniques for correcting these problems on a holistic level, including lucid examples of the ongoing process of healing.
My only complaint about this book is that it fails to address the highly subjective nature of higher perception, but those who are aware of auras should be able to relate her way of seeing with their own.
Although it may not be the best introduction for the beginning healer, overall, this book is an excellent addition to the shelves of intermediate to advanced healers, and it will serve them for years as their practice of the healing arts continues.

Revolutionary Classic in Modern Medicine

If you are interested in self-healing of ANY part of your person or are involved in the medical field, alternative medicine, hands on healing...etc, then buy this book! (Buy "Light Emerging" also!) Most books on healing using the human aura are flaky nonsense. In fact, most (not all) "New Age" books are nonsense in my opinion. This book is a strong exception. I honestly believe that this book will one day be considered a revolutionary text in modern medicine - that the techniques outlined in this text will one day become standard practices in modern medicine. I might add, I'm a very skeptical reader when it comes to non-traditional thought. I'm not some flake running around with crystals on my neck "sucking up bad energy." I'm a practicing mechanical engineer with a strong traditional educational background (incl. grad degree) in critical analysis. I should also mention I've attended one of her healing workshops and saw things that completely amazed me and also some things that seemed a bit odd. However, overall I would certainly recommend going to one of her workshops. If interested, you may wish to search for her web site under "Barbara Brennan School of Healing"

This book should be required internship material!

As I begin to send out applications for my first administrative position, thoughts of the great responsibility, the challenges, and the complex and often unpredictable nature of the job are daunting. Throughout my training and internship I have received numerous helpful resources and read many inspiring texts, but after reading The New Principal's Fieldbook, I can say one thing with certainty: If I could only take one book through the door with me on my very first day as principal, this would be the one.

The New Principal's Fieldbook is an absolute gold mine of information. Written by seasoned administrators and including tales of trials and successes from countless others, this book takes a true "rubber-meets-the-road" approach that addresses the actual challenges new leaders will face. The New Principal's Fieldbook goes well beyond theory and philosophy to provide new principals with practical tools and suggestions that can be applied on the job. Within the fifteen well-organized chapters are dozens of tips, strategies, check-lists, and activities dealing with extremely helpful topics such as how to prepare for the first day of school, navigating the "hidden culture" and informal lines of communication within the building, ideas for how to cultivate cooperation with parents and community groups, crisis management, and working with the media to just name a few.

Even if the New Principal's Fieldbook sold for twice as much, it would be worth every penny of its purchase price. I am going to keep it close at hand and refer to it often!

Is helpful to someone looking to get into administration. It had activities after each section that you could do to improve in different areas. It didn't deal as much into "specific situations" like I would have liked.... but that might be too much to expect!

Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph.D., Adv. M.ED. was trained in psycho-physiology and clinical psychology. As a research scientist he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in professional journals and was a Research Fellow at the University of Toronto and the University of Southern California. He fled the world of academia and state sponsored psychology to become an explorer of the human mind...creating such devices as the Radical Undoing Series. He is now a world-famous author of a wide variety of books, CDs, and DVDs on post-modern psychology, sex, tantra, kundalini and mysticism...and an advocate of brain exploration.

Sometimes interesting, sometimes boring

To Lie is Human was first published back in 1992 (entitled The Tree of Lies), but twelve years later it was published again, this time with its present title. Hyatt has written a great number of books, many with the intention that their readers shall "develop" themselves, that is, put shortly, become the best human he or she can possibly be. Still, Hyatt's works are NOT your ordinary help-yourself books that are flooding the market these days. Yes, it's true, Hyatt offers both advices and lessons through his books, but what separates Hyatt from most others is his unrelenting honesty, his somewhat harsh cynicism that not everybody are able to tolerate, and his ways of again and again attack ideas and values that most people probably have taken for granted all their lives.

But what is it, then, that Hyatt has to say? Well, a whole lot of things, actually. He offers all sorts of advice and help in how the individual can improve to the better, without having to fee responsible for or worry about other people. It's not a hardcore egoistic method - for example, Hyatt never says that the ones close to you don't mean anything - but what is does say is that the large mass of people out there don't really fill any purpose, that most people believing they live free lives are nothing but slaves to something they're not intelligent enough to discover, and that it obviously isn't anything wrong in finding, and using, your own potential to the fullest in a world inhabited by brainwashed citizens.

Still, I find his teachings to be somewhat repetitive. It's very true that Hyatt has tons of interesting things to say, interesting to the extent that they are worth reflecting over and will make you think about things you'd normally not think about, but to tell you the truth, I didn't really find a whole lot of things I hadn't already encountered in The Psychopath's Bible by the same author. The approach in To Lie is Human might be a little different, but when it comes down to it, both books have the same intent; namely to help the reader wake up, see the world for what it really is, and not letting anything stand in the way to personal success.

However, I do have to admit, Hyatt definitely has a sense of humour amidst all his critique, especially when it comes to religions in general and Christianity in particular, which to him is life-denying and attractive only to people too afraid to face life by themselves:

"Have you ever heard of Jehovah having a good belly laugh?

Or, for that matter, his son?

They are miserable creatures and in their misery their flock take refuge."

Now, I don't know about you, but to me that's pretty damn funny.
